U.S. to offer Georgia $1 billion in aid - International Herald Tribune

BAKU, Azerbaijan: The Bush administration plans to announce a $1 billion package of aid to help rebuild Georgia after its rout by Russian forces last month, an administration official said on Wednesday, as Vice President Dick Cheney arrived in the region to signal support for Georgia and other countries neighboring Russia.

The aid - along with Cheney's visit - are sure to increase tensions with Russia, whose leaders have accused the United States of stoking the conflict with Georgia over its two separatist regions, by providing weapons and training to the Georgians. President Dmitri Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin have also complained that humanitarian supplies delivered by the U.S. Navy and Air Force since Russian forces routed Georgian forces and occupied parts of the country were a disguise for delivering new weapons.

A hurricane blows through the country and Bush won't lift a finger, but we will send a billion dollars to another country. What's wrong with this picture? They must have oil in Georgia.

With six months to go before President Bush leaves office, the White House is receiving a flurry of pardon applications. The New York Times reported that 'several members of the conservative legal community' are pushing for the White House to grant pre-emptive pardons for officials involved in counterterrorism programs. Wait—can a president really pardon someone who hasn't even been charged with a crime?"

Yep. In 1866, the Supreme Court ruled in Ex parte Garland that the pardon power "extends to every offence known to the law, and may be exercised at any time after its commission, either before legal proceedings are taken, or during their pendency, or after conviction and judgment." (In that case, a former Confederate senator successfully petitioned the court to uphold a pardon that prevented him from being disbarred.) Generally speaking, once an act has been committed, the president can issue a pardon at any time—regardless of whether charges have even been filed.

Why doesn't this surprise me? Conservatives that claim to be all "tough on crime" are wanting to be pardoned for crimes they aren't even charged with. In all honesty with people like Pelosi running congress, they don't have to worry much about being charge with any type of crimes.

Holy crap! a child was abduted right in the Oval Office. Were the secret service guys out on smoke break?

Someone in 1967 must have been able to forsee the future when George W. Bush would be President.

Bush pays price for 'Mission Accomplished' sign - The White House- msnbc.com:

"WASHINGTON - The White House said Wednesday that President Bush has paid a price for the “Mission Accomplished” banner that was flown in triumph five years ago but later became a symbol of U.S. misjudgments and mistakes in the long and costly war in Iraq.

Thursday is the fifth anniversary of Bush’s dramatic landing in a Navy jet on an aircraft carrier homebound from the war. The USS Abraham Lincoln had launched thousands of airstrikes on Iraq."

Ah yes, my favorite Bush photo. Nothing shows what a moron Bush is better then the picture of him giving a speech telling us “Major combat operations in Iraq have ended,” Bush said at the time. “The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on Sept. 11, 2001, and still goes on.” Where are we today? We are still fighting major combat operations in Iraq.

This Saturday is another Fort Wayne for Peace rally. I wish I would have thought ahead enough to have been able to make that picture into a sign to take down there.

I think I might go to some conservative blogs and wish them "Happy Mission Accomplished day".

News-Sentinel.com: "Plagiarism 'all my fault': Goeglein

News-Sentinel found at least 27 guest columns used others' material."

Further investigation by The News-Sentinel has found evidence of plagiarism in seven more guest columns from former White House aide Timothy S. Goeglein.

Contacted Sunday, the Fort Wayne native attributed the plagiarism to shortcomings in his character: "Pride. Vanity. It's all my fault. It's inexcusable. What I did is wrong. I categorically apologize."

Former Fort Wayne resident and reporter Nacy Nall originally put the pieces together to expose the fraud Goeglein has been pushing off as journalism. Nacy even has a article on Slate.com about how things happened.

Last night I was watching good ol' Keith Olbermann and I heard "Fort Wayne Indiana"

It seems to fit this Goeglein guy would end up working for the Bush Whitehouse and end up resigning in shame.

It's bit exciting I guess to hear about your town and a blog you read regularly getting a mention in MSM and some national new sources.

BBC NEWS | South Asia | Taleban attack Kabul luxury hotel

Four heavily armed Taleban fighters have attacked the Serena hotel in the Afghan capital, Kabul, the main hotel there for international visitors.
Guests, including the Norwegian foreign minister, were rushed to the cellar to escape the attackers.
There was at least one explosion, which the Taleban say was caused by one of their men detonating a "suicide jacket", as well as shooting.
Casualty figures are not clear. Police have kept journalists from the scene.

Deteriorating security
Many international workers are based at the Serena.
In December the Taleban carried out two suicide bombings in Kabul, killing 13 people in one attack.
Later in December, a rocket attack near the Kabul governor's residence killed five people.
Security in much of Afghanistan has deteriorated in the past two years as the Taleban have renewed their attacks on Afghan security forces and Western troops.
They now have significant influence across the countryside in most of Afghanistan.
US-led forces toppled the Taleban in late 2001. However many Afghans complain that since then President Hamid Karzai's government has failed to bring about economic improvements and that corruption is as big a problem as ever.

Just like another middle eastern country, little George Bush playing cowboy charged in, defeated the bad guys then called it done.

Then went looking for the next war. Basically Afghanistan is going to go back to the Taleban and anything good that was done for Afghanistan will have been for nothing.

Iranian boats 'harass' U.S. Navy, officials say - CNN.com

(CNN) -- Five Iranian Revolutionary Guard boats "harassed and provoked" three U.S. Navy ships early Sunday in international waters, the U.S. military said Monday, calling the encounter a "significant" confrontation. The Iranian boats made "threatening" moves toward the U.S. ships and in one case came within 200 yards of one of them, the U.S. officials said. The U.S. Navy also received a radio transmission that officials believe came from the Iranian boats. The transmission said, "I am coming at you. You will explode in a couple of minutes," the U.S. military officials told CNN.
When the U.S. ships heard that radio transmission, they took up their gun positions and officers were "in the process" of giving the order to fire when the Iranians abruptly turned away, the U.S. officials said.

Sounds to me like the Revolutionary Guard is just trying to provoke US ship into firing a shot. Then they can start crying about how they have to defend themselves from the infidels. It would be George Bush/ Dick Chaney's wet dream come true if the US ships would have shot at one of the Iranian boats and started a war.
