Iraq's parliament adjourns without passing key laws - Los Angeles Times: "BAGHDAD — Legislators joked and chatted, showing no sense of urgency about breaking a deadlock between Sunni and Shiite Muslims over national reconciliation as Iraq's parliament held its final session Monday before a monthlong recess."

Wow, I bet a month long vacation would be nice.

Kurdish lawmaker Layla Qahraman recalled frustration over too many sessions spent striking down Hussein-era laws. She noted a session last week in which lawmakers debated whether women should wear veils when they play sports.

It is nice to see they are tackling the tough issues.

"I think the presidency ought to be held at a higher level than having to answer questions from a snowman."
-- Mitt Romney, declining to participate in the next CNN/YouTube debate

Once again proving that the Republicans have no sense of humor or imagination.

I watched the Democrats debate on CNN. I thought they YouTube videos were pretty cool for the most part. Some were kind of dumb, but the snowman video was kind of cute. We could have done without the hillbilly holding his "baby" (some machine gun he needs for personal protection). I kind of liked Obama's answers for most of the questions. A few things Hillary said kind of scared me. I wish I would have wrote this earlier so I could give specific examples. I would like to see Republicans answer questions from ordinary people, but of course they won't do it because they know it will scare us normal people further away from the Republican party come election time.

If McCain is having trouble, maybe he should take some lessons from the master.

I thought this was kind of funny,

Andy Borowitz: McCain Puts Straight Talk Express on eBay; Bus Was Target of Sarcastic Headlines - Politics on The Huffington Post

In what some political observers are calling an ominous sign for his cash-starved White House bid, Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) today posted his campaign bus, The Straight Talk Express, on the Internet auction site eBay.

Mr. McCain denied that the move stemmed from money problems, stressing instead that he had decided to sell the bus so that it would no longer provide fodder for sarcastic headlines such as "Wheels Come Off Straight Talk Express" or "Straight Talk Express: Out of Gas?"

I missed this the other night on Leno. I found this story on Think Progress

Bush Administration Subpoenas Michael Moore

For the filming of his documentary SiCKO, Michael Moore took sick 9/11 workers to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to help them obtain free medical care. “The (rescue workers) just want medical attention!” Moore shouts into a loudspeaker in the movie, in a futile attempt to win over the security guards. “The same kind Al Qaeda is getting!” In May, Moore announced that the Treasury Department launched an investigation into his trip, examining “whether he had violated restrictions on travel to Cuba.”

They give suspected terrorist free health care, but people that helped clean up after the terrorist can't get treated. What sick messed up country we live in. I can't believe 28% of American still support Bush. Like a bunch of sheep being taken to the slaughter house. These are probably the same people that think wrestling is a real sport, "Everybody Loves Raymond" is good TV, Fox News is fair and balanced, and Matt Kelty will be a good mayor for Fort Wayne.

WAKE UP!!!! Our health care system sucks, the way we treat "heroes" civilian or people that serve in the military is a damn disgrace. What makes me so damn sick is Bush and Republicans love to let us know they are "Christians". Bush won't sign a bill to give children health care!!! If that is what it takes to be a "christian" count me out. WWJD? You think Jesus would deny health care to a child? would he deny health care to a wounded soldier, even if he didn't believe in the actual war?

He's another story. Time For President To Come Clean On Tillman Cover-Up

This hero wasn't just killed by friendly fire, he was just plain murdered by our own army. This is from the AP story

The medical examiners' suspicions were outlined in 2,300 pages of testimony released to the AP this week by the Defense Department in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

Among other information contained in the documents:

_ In his last words moments before he was killed, Tillman snapped at a panicky comrade under fire to shut up and stop "sniveling."

_ Army attorneys sent each other congratulatory e-mails for keeping criminal investigators at bay as the Army conducted an internal friendly-fire investigation that resulted in administrative, or non-criminal, punishments.

_ The three-star general who kept the truth about Tillman's death from his family and the public told investigators some 70 times that he had a bad memory and couldn't recall details of his actions.

_ No evidence at all of enemy fire was found at the scene - no one was hit by enemy fire, nor was any government equipment struck.

Then they just lied to his family. What kind of government does that to it's own citizens? Read a book called "1984" and you might get a idea. How can 28% of Americans sleep at night know this is the kind of crap Bush is doing. I'm sure they tuck themselves with thier holy bible under the pillow and sleep well know that "dear leader" is watching over them.

Finally, science George W. Bush can understand:

* Any body suspended in space will remain in space until made aware of its situation (plus an interval for live falling bodies to express an appropriate emotion).

* Any body in motion will tend to remain in motion until solid matter intervenes suddenly.

* Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter.

* The time required for an object to fall twenty stories is greater than or equal to the time it takes for whoever knocked it off the ledge to spiral down twenty flights to attempt to capture it unbroken.

* All principles of gravity are negated by fear.

* Falling bodies either collide with the earth completely elastically or inelastically. If the collision is elastic, the energy will be ultimately transferred to something else which collides absolutely inelastically (e.g., into a hanging cliffside that cracks and falls).

* Momentum is continual until noticed.

* Bodies can achieve energies greater than they originally started with, even if no external force is added (e.g., a rock will, when rolled against a ramp) fly higher than its original starting point.

* The amount of work on rocks falling tends towards zero (i.e., they tend to fall to their original (!) starting point).

* As speed increases, objects can be in several places at once, a situation similar to the ones described by quantum mechanics.

* Certain bodies can pass through solid walls painted to resemble tunnel entrances; others cannot. The one who cannot is usually the one who painted the tunnel in the first place and almost always after a character has passed through successfully.

* Any violent rearrangement of feline matter is impermanent.

* Everything falls faster than an anvil.

* Guns, no matter how powerful, or no matter where aimed, will do nothing more than char flesh, blow away feathers, or rearrange beaks. In certain occasions, they leave a perfectly circular hole that goes completely through the body of the character being shot, but this does not affect his/her health in any way.

* Any given amount of explosives will propel a body miles away, but still in one piece, charred and extremely peeved.

* Arms holding large falling weights are infinitely elastic, but will eventually drag the holder along

Only 1 day left to go over to Left of Centrist and sponser Robert for Blogathon 2007. It's for a great cause, The EARTH! what could be better then that?

This is pretty sad, the wingnuts are cleaning their rifles just in case Hillary gets elected president, and posting it on Bill O'reilly's website.

Lane Hudson: BillOreilly.com Being Investigated by Secret Service - Politics on The Huffington Post

Lane Hudson apparently reported it to the Secret Service and they seem to be taking it seriously. Taylor Marsh as a post about it too, and links to the same Lane Hudson post.

I don't know how true to life the move The Sentinel is, but in that movie Keifer Sutherland is a Secret Service agent that investigates threats on the President's life. They show him listening to phone messages and think reviewing internet post. I could only sit through the movie once, the plot is kind of silly. One Secret Service agent is sleeping with the First Lady and wackyness insues.

We all know I'm not President Bush fan, but I would never post anything or even think of wanting harm to come to the poor old bastard.

Here is a nice little opinion piece from the New York times.

Just What the Founders Feared: An Imperial President Goes to War - New York Times: "Members of Congress should not be intimidated into thinking that they are overstepping their constitutional bounds. If the founders were looking on now, it is not Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi who would strike them as out of line, but George W. Bush, who would seem less like a president than a king."

I wonder, shouldn't the president be at least required to READ the Constitution at some point. Maybe even take a written test.

GOP defeats Iraq withdrawal bill - Politics - MSNBC.com

WASHINGTON - Senate Republicans scuttled a Democratic proposal ordering troop withdrawals from Iraq in a showdown Wednesday that capped an all-night debate on the war.

The 52-47 vote fell short of the 60 votes needed to cut off debate under Senate rules. It was a sound defeat for Democrats who say the U.S. military campaign, in its fifth year and requiring 158,000 troops, cannot tame the sectarian violence in Iraq.

Surprise, surprise, Democrats waste every ones time and get our hopes up just to let us down again. I wonder is this congress going to do anything this term? I bet they could vote themselves a pay raise.

By Susan Page
USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — The 44th president will move into the Oval Office with an agenda defined in large part by the 43rd president."

The person we elect as our next leader is going to have one hell of a mess to clean up after the Shrub years. So either the next president has been set up to be one of the greats like FDR following Hoover or they have been set up for major failure.

The question now is who is going to be up for this challenge, the kid from Illinois, the lady from Arkansas, the metro sexual with the $400.00 hair, the cross dresser from New York, or the cult member from Michigan? In the context of who can do the best clean up job it's going to be hard to pick a candidate from our choices. They are in for a major clean up job, with the war going on, the countries reputation, health care, and immigration.

From the list of candidates we have so far, I can't really pick one I think would be up for the challenge. All we can do is hope Al Gore will wake up and decide to run.
He might not be a FDR, but he would be better then any choice we currently have.

Guard passes goal for recruits
Troops paid to help boost ranks

By Oren Dorell
USA TODAY

New recruiting techniques and appeals to patriotism have helped the National Guard achieve its highest level of troops since 2001.

The Guard, which has struggled to fill its ranks during the war in Iraq, pins its success on a new recruitment program. It includes paying a bonus to Guard members who signed up recruits.

The regular Army and Army Reserves have adopted a version called "Every Soldier a Recruiter." The Army is meeting its recruitment goals.

I'm not for the war, but as long as there is a $20,000.00 sign up bonus and the army is recruiting at NASCAR events, there isn't going to be a shortage of young people signing up. Now of course you going to have more of this type of thing happening,

Marines face scrutiny in Iraqi deaths

Investigators are examining allegations that troops wrongfully killed unarmed prisoners in 2004 during the fierce battle for Fallouja.
By Tony Perry, Times Staff Writer
July 5, 2007
CAMP PENDLETON — Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents are examining allegations that Marines killed as many as eight unarmed Iraqi prisoners during a battle in Fallouja in November 2004, according to civilian and military sources.

The investigation is at least the third of possible war crimes by Marines based here and involves the same company, Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Regiment, that is at the center of the largest allegation of atrocities by U.S. troops in Iraq — the alleged wrongful killing of 24 civilians in Haditha on Nov. 19, 2005.

Get down baby!!!

Wednesday, July 4, 2007

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security"

This is as true right now today, as it was in 1776.

It's high time for the people that are elected to represent us to do their duty and trow off such Government!!!!

We, the people, want impeachment NOW

Yesterday, George Bush decided to let Scooter Libby, the one man who was convicted for the lies around the Iraq war, avoid serving out his prison sentence. Even Paris Hilton served more jail time than he will. And letting Libby off the hook is only the most recent example of a consistent Bush administration pattern of obstruction of justice. Warrantless wiretaps, Alberto Gonzalez, the original outing of Valerie Plame; we're all familiar with the numerous past transgressions by these criminals.

As they say in civics class, America is a country of laws, not of men. It's time for Congress to stand up and use those laws to rid our country of the men who are systematically dismantling our constitution and ignoring the checks and balances that have always protected our democracy. Bush and Cheney think their administration is above the law. That's un-American, and this July 4th it's time for Congress to re-assert its constitutional authority and stop the administration's obstruction of justice.

Congress can start by demanding answers from the Bush administration about the Iraq war and their illegal spying program, and not backing down until they get them. Cheney won't testify? Subpoena him. He won't come? Hold him in contempt of Congress and send over the police. And if that doesn't work, impeach the guy. We just can't let President Bush and his administration continue to wipe their feet on our Constitution.

Let's celebrate Independence Day by reaffirming the basic, founding idea of our government: No one, not even the president of the United States, is above the law. Sign this petition to urge Congress to act NOW! If enough of us make enough noise, and for long enough, and from all corners of our country, then perhaps this Congress will stiffen it's spine and move to remedy the poison that has seeped into our land for far too long now.

After you've signed the petition and pestered your own Congress critter, join me by copying this post to your own blog, and adding your blog to the list below. Let's take this message of unity and support to every corner of America, and show just how many of us are ready to take back America!

We, the undersigned bloggers of America, agreeing that dissent is the truest form of patriotism, hereby publicly voice our unanimous discontent with the Bush administration and beseech the Congress of the United States of America to provide redress by immediately initiating impeachment proceedings against George W. hat tip to The Democratic Daily, he has a full transcrpit of the video posted.

I think this the best part,

For you, Mr. Bush, and for Mr. Cheney, there is a lesser task. You need merely achieve a very low threshold indeed. Display just that iota of patriotism which Richard Nixon showed, on August 9th, 1974.

Resign.

When John Wayne, and said, “I didn’t vote for him, but he’s my president, and I hope he does a good job.” I don't think he had any idea how bad it could get.

Tuesday, July 3, 2007

I've been thinking (surprise surprise) about this Libby thing. Here you have a guy ththat goes into court claiming he did nothing wrong. The jury convicts him and he gets sentenced. Now he has planned to make appeals, which pretty much means he's going back to court to try and proof he did nothing wrong and that the first court was wrong. Then Good ol' Bush comes along and commutes the sentence, but he still has to pay the fines. I know a lot of the left is mad because Libby isn't going to prison now, the right is mad because Good ol' Bushie didn't give him the full pardon. I think this is typical Bush'it. Not enough balls to really do some good, but enough of a prick to screw things up. It's not like Bush can run for another term so might as well pardon the guy. Anyone running for president as a Republican needs to be distancing themselves from Bush anyway. I have a ton of reasons to hate McCain, Romney and Rotten Rudy, the fact the Shrub pardoned some asshole isn't going to make me not vote for them.

What is really messed up is the fact that Republicans are the ones always pushing for harsh sentance on crime. Wasn't Bush's best friend the Texas gas chamber? I think Bush commuting the sentence pretty much says "he's guilty and was covering for me and Darth Chaney and should go to prison, but I don't have the balls to give him the full ride right now".

Here is a interesting thought, from The Daily Dish

"One aspect of the commutation of Libby's sentence has been overlooked. Libby knows a very great deal about the war crimes of the president and vice-president and even more about the vagaries of the use of WMD intelligence before the war. By commuting his sentence, Bush is obviously trying to ensure that Libby doesn't talk. He is making sure that there's no pressure on Libby to cop a plea and give Fitzgerald more evidence of malfeasance in the White House."

That probably hits the nail on the head, Libby probably knows it all and Darth Chaney can't get his hands on a shotgun to try and silence him.

Doonesbury@Slate-35th Anniversary--: "'It is right that this person is considered part of the opposition in the U.S., but opposition in the U.S. is a part of the Great Satan.'
-- media advisor Mehdi Kahlor, rejecting Oliver Stone's request to make a documentary about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Stone in response:
'I wish the Iranian people well, and only hope their experience with an inept, rigid ideologue president goes better than ours.'"

Somehow I don't think it will, we can at least hope to get rid of our comander-in-nutjob.

With some help from, John at Left In Aboite and Robert at Left of Centrist, we found some burning info.

American Legal Publishing - Online Library

(Ord. G-28-99, passed 12-28-99)

This is from the fire department web site

Grills & Other Open-Flame Cooking Devices

10/12/2006

Fort Wayne Fire Department reminds everyone that The State of Indiana has laws regarding the use and storage of gas and charcoal grills as well as other open-flame cooking devices, especially in regards to apartments, condominiums, townhouses, etc.

If the building exterior, deck, balcony or patio is composed of combustible materials, the grill may not be used or stored within 10 feet of the combustible construction.

Indiana Code 307.5 Open-flame cooking devices states: Charcoal burners and other open-flame cooking devices shall not be operated on combustible balconies or within 10 feet (3048 mm) of combustible construction.
Exceptions:
1. One- and two-family dwellings.
2. Where buildings and decks are protected by an automatic sprinkler system.

Indiana Code 307.5.1 Liquefied-petroleum-gas-fueled cooking devices states: LP-gas burners having a LP-gas container with a water capacity greater than 2.5 pounds (1.14 kg) [nominal 1 pound (0.454 kg) LP-gas capacity] shall not be located on combustible balconies or within 10 feet (3048 mm) of combustible construction.
Exception:
1. One- and two-family dwellings.

If nothing else the fire department says it can be with in 10 feet. Not 20 like the guy thought. The actual patio is just a cement pad but there is a wood privacy like fence around it. It's not exactly 10 foot from the building. I pretty much doubt the fire marshall is going to drop by anytime soon. If he does come by I hope I can finish my burgers before they carry me off to jail.

Sunday, July 1, 2007

I was out grilling some hamburgers on the grill on this nice sunny Sunday afternoon (no nobody stole my meat). The maintenance guys walked up and one says "hey buddy no illegal grilling out here". That has to be a joke (right?), but I was caught off guard a bit by this stranger trying to be funny and I make a comment back that was more smart ass then I meant. Both guys are kind of taken back a bit I think, and he says "I'm just kidding, but technically it is illegal to grill closer then 20 ft. to the building in Ft. Wayne". I'm like "what? no shit?", He tells me the city council had passed some ordnance a while ago, and they plan to start enforcing it more this summer. The way he talked I think it's just for apartment buildings. Were I live each unit has a little patio attached to it were you can put some lawn chairs and a grill, and it has a privacy fence built around it. Obviously it's no 20 feet away. The maintenance guy says they really don't care, but he wanted to let me know. I am wondering how to find out what the real scoop is on this law? How the hell would I even know such a thing existed unless this guy told me? Maybe I can email someone on the council and ask? If I get more info I will post it.
