Found this story on MSN, Wacky warnnings. Good stuff there, who knew you shouldn't start the dryer if your kid is inside? How else can you get them dry after they been in the pool. Think about the savings on washing and drying beach towels.

The one thing I found funny is,

[“A front loader is just at the right height — speaking now as a mother and not a corporate spokeswoman — for a 4-year-old,” said Patti Andresen-Shew, marketing director for Alliance Laundry Systems LLC in Ripon, Wis.
She said there have been lawsuits filed against companies — “fortunately not ours” — after small children got into coin-operated laundry equipment and an older child started the machine.]

Do you really think a child even if they are old enough to read, is going to bother to read the warning label? Heck the warning label might actually make some kid wonder what would happen and convince little brother Joey to climb in there.

I actually got stuck in a dryer when I was 5 years old. With a cat! It's funny as hell now, but if my Mom hadn't heard all of the racket, I would probably have died.

In the 1960's most dryers had a switch that stopped them if the door was opened, much like today's units. The difference, however, was that the older dryers would also auto-START when the door was closed if the drying cycle hadn't completed!

Best as I can recall, Mom had removed some clothes from the dryer. I walked in with my kitty, and seeing a convenient "seat", sat. Lack of body weight and gravity finish the scenario. . .

My adopted son, Dustin, was placed in a dryer - on purpose - when he was only two years old. His biological mother's boyfriend thought it was the only way to get the crying kid to stop.

It's really sad someone would come up with a idea like that. Maybe those labels are so bad...
